WELL DONE!
CONNECTING TO MYSELF - IN SHORT
My mind is impossible to forget, yet I have 2 other more quiet partners that are equally important: my emotions and my body.
In addition to my thoughts, my body sensations and feelings are valuable pieces of information that provide me with more options for how to react.
When I am connected to myself, I am aware of how I feel (emotions and physically)
CONNECTING TO MYSELF - IN FULL
As I think all the time, I tend to forget that I am more than just a brain! I have emotions, and I have physical sensations too.
Connecting to myself involves shifting my attention from my brain to my emotions and body; and ask myself questions such as: what emotion am I feeling? Is it pleasant or unsettling? On a scale from 1 to 10, how intense is it? Next, how does my body feel? Do I notice tension, or am I more relaxed?
When I have physical sensations, it may be nice or I could feel physical tension in parts of my body. Same as emotions, physical tensions are to alert me a given situation is unpleasant to me, and I should do something about it. Being aware of them therefore matters.
Emotions are a good compass to assess how well I am. My Emotions feed me, and at times express a need I have and that is not met. For instance if I feel lonely, it could be that I need to feel loved. And so love is something I shall give to myself.
If the person in front of me is paying attention, they will be able to read how I feel through my body.
My face and voice reflect my emotions, and my body language reveals whether I am at ease or not.
To align with myself, when possible, I can also express how I feel speaking up. As needed, my Ego will fuel me courage to do so.
When I experience pleasant feelings, I should savor the moment. If I feel something I dislike, I should have a dialogue with myself to understand what is bothering me—so I can address it either in the moment or later.
I never ask myself for more than I can give at any given time. I can always fuel myself with the feeling I need.
