THE POLLUTION IN MY HEAD
FAQ - The Pollution in my head

How does the Pollution in my head influence my life?

Can I pollute myself while being alone?

Why do I pollute myself? What's the point?!
When my Filter is clouded, I tend to follow my Ego even when the situation doesn’t require it—leading to reactions disconnected from reality. And as I do so, I marginalize myself as the way I act is over the top.
When the following four phenomena occur together, I can be certain I’m polluting my own mind:
1. I am not living in the present. Instead, I am reinventing the past or imagining a future.
2 All these imagined scenarios end poorly.
3. I am judging everything that has happened or will happen, believing it should be better.
4. I am not making myself feel any better. On the contrary, I’m reinforcing my anger, sadness, or fear with these thoughts!
For example, when I am multitasking and not fully listening, I might latch onto a single sentence and react to it out of context. In such cases, I project meaning onto a few words while missing the actual point of the conversation.
Polluting my mind doesn’t always involve interactions with others. I am perfectly capable of turning my own thoughts against me and polluting my life without any external input.
A common example is when I’ve experienced a bad moment and replay it over and over in my mind.
For instance, imagine I was driving, and someone almost hit my car. Nothing actually happened, but it could have. Instead of experiencing that moment once, I replay it repeatedly in my head, living the same scary moment hundreds of times. In doing so, I waste all that time dwelling on it instead of being present and enjoy what is actually happening around me.
Similarly, I might replay a past conversation endlessly, analyzing what the other person said, what they might have meant, or what they should have said instead. Even though the other person has long moved on, I remain stuck in the dialogue we had. I might even let these imagined scenarios build resentment or negative feelings toward them. Then, the next time I meet that person, those feelings may resurface, causing me to overreact unnecessarily.
The reason we pollute ourselves is paradoxical. We do it to protect ourselves, but in doing so, we end up exposing ourselves instead.
We pollute our minds because we wish our lives were different. We want everything to go our way, yet reality often doesn’t align with our desires. When this mismatch occurs, we retreat into a fantasy world where we can "fix" everything. Our Ego, with good intentions, steps in to help us reshape how things should be.
In this imaginary world, we are the heroes. Nothing can stand in our way. We deliver harsh truths to people, and they thank us for it. We argue and always win while gaining the submission of others. People end up admiring us and seeing us for whom we are: extraordinary.
But this is how we disconnect from reality, isolating ourselves in a fantasy rather than engaging with what is truly happening. While the intent is good, living solely in our heads is not the solution. To evolve and grow, we must connect with reality and face it as it is.
